•The New
School Project
was started in 2003 by Nansen Dialogue Centre Osijek, in
cooperation with Education and Teacher Training Agency
of the Republic of Croatia, Osijek branch.Aim
of the project is to establish an integrated primary
school in Vukovar.School's
curriculum will be more adapted to the educational needs
of a multi-ethnic, multicultural society and, at the
same time, school will provide higher quality, as well
as a child-focused education.The
realisation of the project involved all important
stakeholders: teachers living and working in
Vukovar, parents, representatives of City of
Vukovar, representatives of Vukovar-Sirmyum County,
Education and Teacher Training Agency, Coordination
of Minority councils, expert associates, NGOs,
religious leaders.WHY?
The
New School Project was founded as a response to
segregated schools in Vukovar and its region. School is,
along with the family, a basic agens of children’s
socialization, a place where children adopt values and
develop their attitudes.Researches have
shown that children themselves are the ones who are most
inclined to discriminate on the ethnic principles, which
does not contribute to the development of the community
on the long term basis. The researches have also shown that
parents consider the present division as a threat to the
development of the community, therefore they expressed
their worries about the future of their children in the
town of Vukovar.
