THE NEW SCHOOL GENERAL CURRICULUM AND
THE SUBJECT CURRICULUM FOR "CULTURAL AND
SPIRITUAL HERITAGE OF THE REGION"
General Curriculum
for The New School was developed
(February 2005 – June 2006) by
teachers and parents involved in the
project; together with expert
associates from the field of
education, pedagogy and psychology,
and with the support and
consultation of Education and
Teacher Training Agency, Osijek
branch.
Curriculum is developed according to
children’s needs, expressed by their
parents in the Research and is also
in accordance to Croatian National
Education Standard.
The New School General Curriculum
strongly emphasises values that
parents and teachers from the region
feel their children should nurture:
acceptance
and respect for others, accepting
differences, inclusiveness,
solidarity, equal opportunities and
non-violence and peaceful
coexistence.
The New School will not only enable
members of minority to realise their
right to education in their own
language and alphabet and to learn
about their cultural heritage, but
goes a step further, The New School
enables and encourages all pupils to
learn about cultural heritage of all
ethnic groups that live in Vukovar
region so that they get to know each
other, understand and respect their
differences, which we see as a
precondition for the development of
sustainable inter-ethnic relations
among groups that share the same
space.
Specific characteristic of the New
School curriculum is the subject
Cultural and Spiritual Heritage of
the Region(CSHR), and teaching of
Mother tongue / Regional language.
CSHR offers opportunity for pupils
to learn about all nationalities and
ethnic communities that live in the
region. It allows children to learn
and develop insight about different
nationalities that live in their
region, learn about impact these
groups had on the development of
their region and realise how
interconnected and interdependent
all of them are.
Teaching of mother tongue / Regional
language (Serbian, German,
Hungarian, Ruthenian, Ukrainian,
etc.) will be carried out in the
form of elective subject for all
interested pupils.
