Last week an international teacher training was organized in Warsaw by WCIES. The event started on March 28th with an introduction and the presentation of WCIES and their Holocaust programs for students and teachers. The participants also saw the „Women during the Holocaust” exhibition. After that, the participants went to the POLIN Museum, where an inhouse expert held an education about the Holocaust. Later in the afternoon, a partners meeting was held where upcoming activities were discussed.
On the 29th, an education was held at WCIES about the radicalisation process in the context of teaching about the Holocaust. The education was led by a radicalisation expert Jacek Purski, who thought the participants how to prevent young people from becoming radicalised through education. In the afternoon, a guided tour through the POLIN Museum was organized, where the participants were familiarised with the history of Polish Jews.
The last day started off with a workshop and a guided tour by the Jewish Historical Institute “What they were unable to shout out to the world – the story and significance of the Underground Archive of the Warsaw Ghetto”, after which the participants took part in a guided walk of Warsaw “The unremovable traces of the Warsaw Ghetto”. The training ended with a workshop on how to teach critical thinking to students, and presentation of teaching materials that WCIES has developed.
The project UNITED is implemented by the Nansen Dialogue Centre (Croatia) in partnership with the Technical school and Natural Sciences School Ruđer Bošković Osijek (Croatia), Glocal Factory (Italy), IIS “Ferraris Fermi” (Italy), Center of Jewish Cultural Heritage Synagogue Maribor (Slovenia) and WCIES (Poland) and is funded by the European Union through the CERV program.
